It’s official: I’ve registered for the 3-Länder-Marathon, which takes place this October at Lake Constance. And I want to tell you why I think you should consider it too.
🌍 Three Countries, One Race
The name says it all: 3-Länder-Marathon literally means Three Countries Marathon. And that’s exactly what it is.

You start in Lindau, Germany, run through Austria, into Switzerland, and then head back into Austria to cross the finish line in Bregenz.
No borders, no limits — that’s their slogan, and it fits.
Running through three countries in a single race is a really unique experience, both logistically and emotionally. And it feels cool.
🛳️ Travel Made Easy: Take the Ship to the Start
This event is not just well organized — it’s brilliantly organized.
Here’s how it works:
You can park your car in the morning in Bregenz, where the finish line is. Then, hop on a special ship just for marathon runners, taking you across Lake Constance to Lindau for the start.
This means:
- No stress after the race
- No figuring out how to get back
- You cross the finish line and your car is right there
Seriously — this is how all marathon logistics should work.
🧠 Simplify Your Race Day: A Few Tips
Whether you’re doing your first marathon or your tenth, logistics can ruin your day if you’re not careful. Here’s my personal checklist to keep things smooth:
- Race morning: Go alone if possible — it helps focus your mind.
- After the race: Have someone pick you up or stay close to the finish.
- Hotels: Choose location over comfort. Staying 500 meters from the start or finish beats luxury far away.
- Shower & Bags: If you departure on the race day, ask your hotel if you can leave your luggage and shower after the race — 99% say yes.
👕 Race T-Shirt: Not Just for Show
Yes, they offer a race t-shirt — and yes, you should definitely take it.

It’s from Skinfit, an Austrian brand known for high-quality sportswear.
This isn’t one of those cheap cotton freebies — this one is actually usable for training. Clean design, great fabric, functional fit. Worth the extra euros.
✅ I’m Registered!

Nothing makes it feel real like that confirmation page.
It’s happening. It’s official. And now I’ve got a goal to chase.
🏞️ A Course You’ll Remember
The course starts in Lindau’s historic old town, right on the lake.
You run along the water, soaking in views that make the kilometers fly by. Once you reach Bregenz, you switch to soft trails for a stretch — your knees will thank you.

And the finish? It’s next to the Seebühne — Europe’s largest floating stage. How’s that for a finale?
🎯 My Goal: Sub 3:40 — My Personal Record in the Making
I’ll be aiming to run the 3-Länder-Marathon in under 3 hours and 40 minutes — exactly 3:39:59.
That might not sound like a world record… but for me, it would be my fastest marathon ever.
It’s my first big step on a long journey toward my ultimate goal: running a marathon in under 3 hours.
It starts here. In October. In Lindau.
🤔 What About You?
Have you run the 3-Länder-Marathon before?
Or do you have plans for an autumn race this year?
