Today was supposed to be about my weekly training summary.
But honestly? I don’t feel like summarizing anything.
I’m still in training — that’s the summary.
What I do feel like talking about is cadence.
You know — the famous 180 steps per minute.
I’ve read it in countless books, heard it from coaches, seen it in pro runners:
180 is the magic number. Efficient. Light. Fast.
And it makes perfect sense…
Until you try to do it.
Today during my run, I was listening to Jamie xx — “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” — one of the few 180 bpm tracks on my playlist.
It’s one of my tricks to stay in rhythm. Because as soon as I stop listening to music, my cadence drops. Instantly. From 180 to 160.
I’m on day 76 of my technique training, and still — my legs just don’t want to stick with it.
I try. I count. I bounce. I shuffle. Still not natural.
So here’s my question to you:
How do you do it?
Do you stay around 180?
Do you not care at all?
Any magic trick — or is it just grind, day after day, until it clicks?
Until then, I’ll just keep looping that Jamie xx song…
“There’s gonna be good times” — I hope it applies to cadence, too.
