I’d love to add swimming this week, but my family is visiting — full house, little time. I’d also like to add cycling. In theory, it’s easy: just commute to work by bike. But it’s been raining non-stop, which means I’d need to carry not only a change of clothes for the office but also a second set of cycling gear for the ride home — more hassle than it’s worth with everything else going on.
So for now, I’m sticking to running. Just running.
I’m deep into the Born to Run 2 training — and it’s great. For the first time, I’m getting close to 180 steps per minute. That number matters. If you run with a lower cadence, read up on it.
Jack Daniels was the first to notice that all elite marathon runners hit 180+.
Improving your cadence takes time and focus — but I believe it will pay off.
Or maybe I should say: I’ll keep you posted if it does.
I’m curious: is it realistic to run a marathon at 180 steps per minute as an amateur?
Will it help me beat my personal best?
What’s your experience?
